University of Bedfordshire (UOB)

The University of Bedfordshire is a modern, innovative university with a heritage of top-quality education going back more than 100 years. We help our students become educated, employable, and entrepreneurial global citizens. With more than 40% of our students coming from families with no history of higher education, we lead the way in expanding educational opportunities. Around 70% are mature returners to education and over half are from Black or ethnic minority backgrounds, under-represented in higher education. The excellent services we provide to our students support them in all areas of their lives and encourage them to achieve their goals.

The University of Bedfordshire is based in both Luton and Bedford, two large towns north of London. The University of Bedfordshire has two main campuses in the centre of Luton and on the outskirts of Bedford, both with on-campus accommodation. Besides Butterfield Park, the University has a campus in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and a campus in Luton for nursing and midwifery programs. Putteridge Bury is a fifth site where the postgraduate Business School is located.

Develop the skills & qualifications you need for university success by enrolling in our Foundation programme. Our Foundation pathway programmes mean you obtain one visa for four years of study. After successful completion of your Foundation Year, you are guaranteed automatic progression into the 3-year degree programme in your chosen subject pathway.

At Bedfordshire, we have a vibrant and cosmopolitan student population that includes around 20,000 students from over 100 countries. We are a modern university that believes in nurturing our students to become educated, employable, and entrepreneurial global citizens.

Four reasons why international students should consider the UK over other study destinations

Studying in the UK has become one of the most popular options in the world. The UK has much to offer international students those other English-speaking countries cannot, including a rich heritage of excellence and high-class institutions at every corner. But why should you come to the UK as a destination to further your international education?

Internationally Recognized Universities & Qualifications

3 of the top 10 universities in the world, according to the World University Rankings, are located in the UK, making it the top destination for students from around the world for higher education. In addition, universities, employers, and government bodies worldwide accept degrees from UK universities.

Cheap Study Destination

When it comes to paying for higher education, the UK is substantially cheaper than other English-speaking study abroad destinations such as the US and Australia. It is estimated that UK tuition fees are between £2,000 and £3,000 less expensive than those in the U.S. and Australia. Furthermore, you do not need as much money in your bank account to apply for a student visa in the UK, just £16,000 as opposed to the US (£18,000+) and Australia (£25,000+).

Work, Learn and Earn while you study

In addition to studying and doing research, most international students in the UK gain work experience. Part-time employment, internships during holidays and volunteering are effective ways to highlight your qualifications. Some universities require a work placement as part of their course of study, and the university may help with the placement.

Re-Introduction of Post Study Work Permit

Once you complete your studies in the UK, you can apply for a post-study work visa and remain and look for work for 2 years. You must switch to a post-study work visa after completing your studies in order to work in the UK. In accordance with your post-study employment status, you may opt-out of:

  • Tier 2 (General) Visa – Open to recent graduates holding the UK recognized Bachelor, Masters or PhD degree with a job offer from a licensed employer paying at least £ 20,800 annually in salary.

  • Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa – Open to students in the process of developing a world-class creative concept and being sponsored/funded by their university.
